Good morning! Here are 10 things you
need to know this morning:
1. President Muhammadu Buhari
yesterday took the oath of office to emerge the new President of Nigeria. The
oath of office was administered on him by the Chief Justice of the Federation
at exactly 10:51am at the Eagles Square in Abuja.
2. Relatively, in his inaugural
speech, President Buhari said unequivocally that he was not going to work for a
section of Nigeria but for all Nigerians, vowing to tackle Boko Haram, power
problem, corruption and other sundry issues headlong.
3. Representative of the United
States government at the inauguration of President Buhari, US Secretary of
State, John Kerry had while analysing the inaugural speech of the new president
avowed that it has set a powerful agenda for Nigeria and the entire African
continent.
4. No fewer than 10 persons were
reportedly killed during a wedding at Tashan Alade in Hawul local government
area of Borno State. The incident which happened on Friday was caused by a
female suicide bomber who reportedly detonated the bomb she was carrying,
killing herself and 10 others. Several other persons were injured in the
explosion.
5. Former Niger State Governor, Dr.
Babangida Aliyu, was on Friday during the inauguration activities of the new
State Governor, Alhaji Abubakar Bello, in Minna, stoned, booed and insulted by
the crowd who said his time was up, hence he was not needed. However, the
intervention of security men at the venue of the inauguration brought the
situation under control.
6. National leader of the All
Progressives Congress, APC, Asiwaju Bola Tinubu has said that the chain of
darkness that beclouded Nigeria has been removed with the emergence of
President Buhari as the nation’s President. Tinubu who commended Nigerians for
their roles in ensuring that a new President emerges, was speaking at the
inauguration galla night held in Abuja yesterday as part of his goodwill
message to Nigeria and the rest of the world.
7. Following a rowdy attitude of
some youths in Kaduna State on Friday during the inauguration of Mallam Nasir
El-Rufai as the State governor, activities at the venue were abruptly
suspended. Reports say some youth pelted dignitaries with sachets of water,
stones and other objects.
8. Rivers State Governor, Nyesom
Wike yesterday took the first bold step by appointing Justice Daisy Okocha as
the new Acting Chief Judge of the state. Wike also ordered the reopening of all
courts in the state.
9. The controversy surrounding FIFA
leadership was brought to an end yesterday when Sepp Blatter got re-elected
after his main challenger, Prince Ali bin Al-Hussein withdrew from the race.
Blatter won after the first round of vote was conducted which saw him leading
comfortably.
10. Despite his political leaning
and ideology, the Ekiti State Governor, Ayodele Fayose has hailed President
Muhammadu Buhari for presenting a good speech at the presidential inauguration
which held in Abuja on Friday. According to Fayose, the speech brightens hope
for democracy in Nigeria.
